As some of you will remember I wrote a BLOG on what it takes to compete…well, now I’ve just done my show and came out with a trophy (4th place) in a competitive category and I’m so happy with the result!
If you’ve been following the meal prep pictures and check-in photos on my social media – that’s a little insight, but no one apart from those closest to me really experienced the true realities of ‘the prep’.
Now, I’ll never be able to explain exactly what is it that makes me love it so much. Perhaps it’s my need for discipline and control or perhaps because of my competitive nature but I can assure you that behind the glitz and glamour it’s a stressful and selfish sport…
“Why did you compete?” I hear you say…
Honestly, I wanted to give myself one last chance to see if I could push myself, to see if I had it in me to complete a tough 4 month training and diet regime. However as you will see from my other blog on reverse dieting it will take some time to come out of the other side also.
I have been coached by Alex Shoebridge from The SCI (also fellow contributors for Discount Supplements – so go check out their blog posts for great tips and advice!) I have trained with Alex for 4 years now and we have taken the time to not only build up my metabolism but to also build up my lean tissue. Both of which are so crucial when deciding on if you are ready to compete or how long your prep should be. I’m lucky enough to be coached by a very talented individual, whereby we made sure my health was the priority and we took many steps to ensure that my health stayed intact as much as possible when dieting to this extreme.
As a female, we are extra hormonal, so with that being said I’ll let you picture what a female is like whilst on prep…
Now, during the process my body fat has been the lowest that it has ever been, which although appears unhealthy to most, my coach and I will make sure that it does not remain low for too long after the show and that we reverse diet out safely. However, this low level combined with hunger means my temper and mood has not been the best!
It is therefore crucial to have a strong support system around you and to also make sure you thank them forever and ever more.
Now I don’t want this to sound completely negative because if it were that bad then of course myself and the thousands of others who compete wouldn’t do it.
I set out with a goal and I achieved it and I can’t explain to you how proud and motivated I am about myself as a result. But the most important thing I learnt during this is that the mind is a powerful thing and if used correctly you can achieve anything you set out to do. But now I can honestly say I am looking forward to getting some normality back as well as having some quality friend and family time.
Fitness will always be a massive part of me, but for now it won’t be the only part of me.
I also miss being able to out lift the guys at the gym – so watch out boys!
